The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the foundations of nursing and nursing care and the basic skills of nursing practice. The acquired knowledge should enable students to understand the nursing profession, jobs, and duties of nurses and provide the basis on which further knowledge and skills will be developed during and after graduation.

1. Describe the history of nusring development in the world and in Croatia, the nature of nusring characteristics and principles of nursing care, concepts and conceptual models, basic theories of nursing care and the role of leading nursing theorists.
2. Describe elective/emergency admission, transfer and dismissal of patients.
3. Demonstrate asepsis procedures: desinfection, sterilization and sterilization control.
