Description:
To provide students with insights and knowledge of key sociological theories and concepts, fundamental sociological terms, and sociological approaches to health and illness. Additionally, the aim is for students to acquire basic knowledge about social institutions (particularly in medicine and healthcare), bureaucracy and professions, power and discrimination, health policies, human rights (patients' rights), and social relationships and inequalities in health.
Learning outcomes:
  1. present the basic sociological knowledge necessary to understand the importance of social questions in healthcare and influence of societies, health and social policies on the health of individuals
  2. explain different models of health, methods of prevention of diseases and importance of intersectoral cooperation
  3. explain the importance of healthcare enlightenment and healthcare upbringing
  4. decompose fundamental principles of righteousness and equality in society, the necessity of tolerance and the importance of interdisciplinarity in the provision of healthcare
  5. analyze observed political and social occurrences, connect results of analysis with the needs of future profession
