Description:
The course aims to develop the necessary knowledge and skills to assess pain in patients, to recognize pain symptoms (verbal and nonverbal signs), to assess the psychological state of the patient, and to implement procedures during pain treatment (acute, chronic, and malignant pain). Students will also be expected to acquire knowledge about therapeutic procedures in patients with addictions, and the side effects of opioid analgesia.
Learning outcomes:
  1. define pain and the impact of pain on all organs and organ systems
  2. recognize pain symptoms (verbal and nonverbal signs) and the patient's psychological state
  3. assess pain intensity using various measuring scales, aids or tools
  4. explain techniques for suppressing or reducing the intensity of pain
  5. recognize side effects during pharmacological methods of pain treatment
