To acquaint the student with the basic principles and principles of medical care of surgical patients. The acquired knowledge and skills should enable the student to understand basic principles of nursing, and the application of basic knowledge in nursing practice.

1. to describe the most common surgical pain in adulthood, its clinical picture, diagnostic and therapeutic implications and expected quality of life after invasive surgical procedures
2. describe the organization of the surgical ward and operating theatre
3. to demonstrate the planned and specific pre-operative care and medical management of the patient
4. to demonstrate planned intra-operative medical care for the patient
