Description:

To introduce the student to the basic principles and skills of nursing care for surgical patients. The acquired and adopted knowledge and skills should enable an understanding of the basic principles of nursing care, and the application of basic skills in nursing practice.

Learning outcomes:

to perform planned and specific post-operative medical care of patients in surgical wards
to perform planned and specialised medical care of patients in surgical intensive care units
to improve the quality of care of surgical patients
to provide pre-operative and post-operative patient education
