The development of roads started in ancient times with the beginning of human civilization, first as paths and roads for the movement of people between different places and areas. In today's world, the road network is of great importance in the economic development of any area, because the quality of road connection enables the rapid availability of people, raw materials, and various products to all desired final destinations. The aim of the course is for the students, based on theoretical knowledge and case studies, to: define the term road, familiarize themselves with the division, classification, and categorization of roads, familiarize themselves with the documentation required for road design, distinguish and describe the elements and parts of the road (lower and upper structure) and road buildings, sort road equipment and works on regular and extraordinary road maintenance, establish the difference within city roads, road intersections and parking organization.

1. Define and categorize roads and road intersections in the Republic of Croatia.
2. Calculate and sketch the basic elements of the road that are needed for design and construction.
3. Distinguish and compare the lower and upper structure of the road, road structures, accompanying service facilities on the roads, parking lots, and garages.
4. Enumerate and propose the necessary road equipment, and road maintenance works.
5. Distinguish and rank city roads, streets, and road intersections.
6. Use materials and tools for searching scientific and professional literature in the mother tongue and in English.
7. Present acquired knowledge, ideas, problems, and solutions independently and in a team.
8. Tell, and summarize the history of road construction in the world and in the Republic of Croatia.
9. Select and evaluate the location for street parking spaces, parking lots, and parking garages.
